Olivia Cannizzaro
"Ever since I was a little girl, I loved to create. I would make something out of any medium available, even things my parents would throw away. I would turn it into something neat and surprise them. As I got older, that desire to create grew with me.
I first realized my love for drawing at 14. I was on an airplane headed for Texas and bought a few fashion magazines to read during the flight. I started nonchalantly sketching a model from a Chanel ad onto a paper from my journal. After finishing it, I was surprised to see that it actually looked somewhat like the photo. I enjoyed drawing it so much that I was drawing the entire flight. Thats when I knew art was something I wanted to do as a hobby.
After a few years of drawing portraits, I wanted to give painting a try. I bought a small canvas and a little set of acrylic paints. It was a portrait of an actress. Granted it was my first painting and I didnt know what I as doing, but it unlocked a whole new interest in art and creating. I started exploring other mediums like pastels, colored pencil, and moved on to oils. Oil is my favorite and primary medium to paint with.
When it comes to painting, my favorite subject is Italy. I come from a wonderful Italian-immigrant family from Sicily. My family has always been educated and proud of our heritage and story. Italy is definitely a strong inspiration for my art. When it comes to drawing, portraits are my favorite subjects. People are so unique and have various looks. I love capturing a subjects emotion in their eyes.
I will always have a love for creating, but my greatest love is for God, my family, and my friends. They have all been so encouraging, helpful, and loving. Im extremely blessed.
I have such an appreciation for creating that I have to let it out and share it with others. I believe everybody has a gift that is not to be hidden, but shared with others. Everybody is different with a variety of skills. Be grateful and confident with the gift that you have and share what you have to bless other people. Art is what I love, art is what I share."
